Biggles had a haircut | Greenlees Photography

Biggles our Border Terrier was getting scruffier by the day and some of you may recall this earlier blog entry when he looked like Chewbacca’s Love Child so this afternoon we got the horse clippers and an old beard trimmer out and decided to give him a long overdue haircut.

His treat for being patient was his favourite – the toffee from a tin of Quality Street.

Our eldest son Harry celebrated his 14th birthday yesterday and he certainly did it in style. His band High Voltage had a short set at the PlaySomething annual Christmas gig and I couldn’t believe how much his playing has improved over the last year – I now feel kind of guilty all those times I’ve asked him to turn it down when he has been practicing! He did a solo on each song including an extended one on the Lynard Skynard classic Freebird which is incidentally my favourite song.

Oven Ready Frozen Chicken | Greenlees Photography

We keep a few chickens in the garden including a couple of ex-battery hens we rescued a few months ago, they were destined to be cat food so we decided to let them live out their lives in comparative luxury. Having spent all of their lives indoors every day is a new adventure and today was no exception when they were greeted with a few inches of snow. Our other hens who are purebreeds stuck their heads out of the chicken house and promptly went straight back to bed but our ex-batts decided to brave the elements and explore the garden.

These two are our Border Terriers, Biggles and Buster. Believe it or not Biggles is a pure breed but due to his long coat he looks more like Chewbacca’s love child! They are a constant source of amusement (and photographs) and contrary to what some might think they are the best of friends although they are typical terriers – highly intelligent, even tempered but somewhat stubborn and they generally get along well with other dogs; however, if they dislike another, they do not hesitate to start a fight even with dogs four times their size.

I was recently commissioned to photograph some artwork on behalf of Polly Hodges who is an accomplished dressage rider and artist. Her career as a dressage rider took off in 1999 and she went on to represent her country on British Teams and up to International Grand Prix level. Since equines are a never ending source of inspiration for her work, Polly is frequently found riding and training her horses, which helps her to clear her mind and re-energise her creative passions. Someone once posed the question: “What’s the greater of your passions, Horses or Painting?” Her response was simple: “In my world they go together, cannot be separate, one inspires the other!”

Polly has a love and respect of the beauty, grace, and power of the horse and consequently much of her work is emotive and captures movement through texture and acrylic paints on large canvas in order to achieve maximum impact and portray the power of the subject.

Both of the paintings shown below are on large canvases and initially caused a bit of a headache as I worked out how to photograph them. In time they will probably be offered as limited edition prints and greetings cards.

Greenlees Photography has a new addition to the family! Welcome to my blog where I will provide news and musing about my weddings and other areas of interest as I pursue my creative passion for photography. My blog is intended to be a light hearted and informative place to learn more about my photography business where you will find out about working with me and see shots from all my recent shoots. Over the coming weeks I will be adding some wedding highlights from the year as well as some of the feedback from couples I have been fortunate enough to work with.

A photography blog is not much use without images so here are a few from a short trip my wife and I had last week to Lake Como in Italy which is one of my favourite destinations – I was even lucky enough to shoot a wedding there last year. So stay tuned, come back often and always let me know what you think as your comments and opinions are always valued and most welcome.
